restoring faith in human nature

Hello
I'm Louise Witney, a UKCP registered Psychotherapist, Trainer and Supervisor working in private practice near Maidstone, Kent. I provide individual, couple and group psychotherapy in a peaceful, rural location and online. I'm a general psychotherapist, which means I help people with a broad range of mental health problems. Whether you feel anxious, depressed or are going through a difficult time, you can make changes with the help of another mind. My approach is relational, which means change happens in relationship. The therapeutic relationship is where healing begins.
Why Choose Relational Psychotherapy?
Relational psychotherapy originates from the psychoanalytic tradition or object relations theory of the early to mid century, the founders of which made radical discoveries in their observations of infants. One such famous observation was the 'Strange Situation' study undertaken by Mary Ainsworth in the 1970's, who elaborated upon John Bowlby's (1969) attachment theory. In the study, Ainsworth saw that children showed different behaviour and temperaments depending on the situation and their caregivers. These early classifications became what we now know as the four attachment styles. Much of how we relate to ourselves and others has to do with our attachment style, and this is when relational psychotherapy can help. My approach involves working at relational depth over time in order to provide the required experience. This means working with you on a weekly basis signifying commitment in the therapeutic endeavour. Change occurs in relationship and this is what I look for. The collaborative approach means you become an active participant in the changes you want to make.
